After Crimea, secessionist Transnistria filed request to join Russia
After Crimea, the breakaway region of Moldova, Transnistria, also wants to become part of Russia, the Russian newspaper Vedomosti reported on Tuesday.
A request to change the Russian legislation and allow Transnistria to join Russia was submitted by the head of the Supreme Soviet of the separatist region, Mihail Burla to the head of Russian State Duma, Serghey Narishkin.
The request was filed amid a draft law sent in the Duma by “Spravedlivaia Rossia” Party regarding the simplification of annexation procedures.
According to this draft law, Russia should be able to annex foreign territories without the government’s consent of the countries they belong to, which lack a “legitimate and efficient authority” and following a referendum, the source said.
According to Mr. Burla, this law will not allow Transnistria to join Russia, but ************SPAM/BANNEAR************ Crimea. He added that a referendum, which would respect the Moldovan legislation, should be organized in Transnistria as well.
This is not the first request of this kind sent to Moscow by the separatist administration of Transnistria. Following a “referendum” organized in the breakaway region in 2006, allegedly 97.2% of participants were in favor of joining Russia.
Tiraspol-based leadership filed a request to be recognized by Russia as independent state and become part of the Federation.
